Automatic Backup Solution for everything
I think we should make a good list of sites for users to choose from so they can have there files automatically backed up online.
CrashPlan - Windows/Mac/Linux CrashPlan takes an interesting approach with their backup software. You can download the software for free and use it to perform local backups on your computer and home network as well as back up data to a friend's computer if they are also running CrashPlan. They don't offer any free introductory plans for online storage like most other online backup providers. The software is easy to use. DropBox - Windows/Mac/Linux A folder is placed in the Documents area of your computer. Anything you put into this folder will be backed up online. Dropbox keeps a change log going back 30 days. All your files can be downloaded from the Dropbox web site. Mozy - Windows/Mac Mozy is an automatic backup service. Once you install the Mozy on your computer, it will back up any files you specify as often as you want it to. Mozy can back up based on file changes, only uploading the file that has changed and not the entire computer all over again. Mozy stores previous versions of your files, and in addition to restoring all your files by downloading them, you can also order a backup on physical media for a fee. Carbonite - Windows/Mac Basically the same features as mozy, slightly cheaper however does not offer the option to buy your files on physical media. Jungle Disk - Windows/Mac/Linux With Jungle Disk you pay for how much you use, you can also use it with any application you'd like that can write to a network drive. This is nice for users who don't backup or download a lot of files as you will pay less. |
